Maryland Pay & Tax Calculators

Maryland taxes a paycheck in four layers, and most national calculators only model three of them properly. Every tool here applies all four โ€” federal income tax, Maryland state tax across its 10 brackets, your countyโ€™s local โ€œpiggybackโ€ rate, and FICA โ€” from one shared, verified 2026 tax engine. Free, no sign-up, and the arithmetic runs entirely in your browser.

The 2026 figures every calculator here uses

One tax engine sits behind every tool here, so two calculators can never disagree about the same underlying number. These are read straight out of it.

Maryland state income tax2.00% to 6.50%, across 10 brackets
County โ€œpiggybackโ€ tax2.25% to 3.30%, set by your county of residence
Maryland standard deduction$3,350 single / $6,700 joint
Federal standard deduction$16,100 single / $32,200 joint
Social Security wage base$184,500 โ€” 6.2% applies below it, nothing above

Maryland pension exclusionup to $40,600 at age 65+, reduced by Social Security received

Two of those jurisdictions, Anne Arundel and Frederick, charge a graduated local rate rather than a flat one, so their effective percentage moves with income. These tools apply the real brackets for both rather than a single average.

Frequently asked questions

Which Maryland calculator should I use?
If you are salaried and want your take-home pay, use the Maryland Salary Calculator on the homepage. If you are paid by the hour, use the Hourly Paycheck Calculator โ€” or the Overtime Pay Calculator if you are working time-and-a-half. For a one-off payment, the Bonus Tax Calculator handles the 22% federal supplemental rate. If you are 1099 or freelance, the Self-Employment Tax Calculator adds the 15.3% SE tax that employees never see in full. Filling in new-starter paperwork, use the MW507 Estimator or the exemptions worksheet. Retired or close to it, use the Retirement Tax Calculator, which is the only one that applies the pension exclusion and the Social Security exemption.
Why does my Maryland take-home pay depend on my county?
Maryland is one of a small number of states where counties levy their own income tax on top of the state rate. Every one of the 24 jurisdictions sets its own, and they currently run from 2.25% to 3.30%. It is charged on where you live, not where you work, so two people on identical salaries at the same employer can take home noticeably different amounts. Two counties โ€” Anne Arundel and Frederick โ€” do not even use a flat rate; they use graduated brackets, so their effective local rate depends on income.
Are these calculators free, and do they store my data?
Free, with no sign-up. Every calculation runs in your browser using JavaScript โ€” your salary, county and filing status are never sent to a server, because there is no server-side calculation to send them to.
How accurate are the results?
They are estimates, and deliberately labelled as such. All the tools share one tax engine using the 2026 federal brackets, Maryland's state brackets, the current standard deductions, the Social Security wage base and every county's local rate, with figures traced to IRS and Comptroller of Maryland publications. What a real paycheck adds on top is employer-specific: year-to-date caps, benefit elections, garnishments, and your exact withholding elections on Form MW507. Treat the output as a close planning figure, not a payroll statement.
What is the difference between the MW507 Estimator and the MW507 Worksheet?
The worksheet answers โ€œhow many exemptions am I entitled toโ€ โ€” it works through the Personal Exemptions Worksheet on page 2 of the form and gives you the figure for Line 1. The estimator answers the next question: โ€œwhat does that number do to my paycheck?โ€ Most people want the worksheet first, then the estimator to sanity-check the result.
